Ogre You Asshole

Manabu Deto, who handled vocals and guitar, joined his friend Norihito Hiraide on bass in 1999 and recruited Kei Mabuchi for guitar along with Takashi Katsuura on drums, thereby establishing Ogre You Asshole. The outfit had first operated under the name Joy Division before switching identities in 2001, prompted by Modest Mouse bassist Eric Judy inscribing the cryptic phrase on Deto’s arm rather than offering a conventional autograph. Taking cues from Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, and Television, among others, the musicians launched their live performances and issued the self-titled debut album in 2005.
