Hailing from Los Angeles, Old Man Markley stands apart from conventional groups through a rustic yet explosive style that fuses bluegrass with punk, capitalizing on the shared velocity and drive of both forms. Their anything-goes selection of songs—spanning traditional numbers, vintage pop and rock covers, and self-penned tracks—combined with raw excitement helped them quickly earn a reputation for memorable performances. Since forming in 2007, the seven-piece outfit has featured John Carey on guitar and vocals, Annie DeTemple on autoharp and vocals, Jeff Fuller on drums, Joey Garibaldi on bass and vocals, Ryan Markley on washboard, John Rosen on banjo, and Katie Weed on fiddle. The band first presented its 21st century punk jug and string band approach with the 2010 EP For Better for Worse, issued the follow-up EP Party Shack in 2011, and unveiled its full-length debut Guts n' Teeth later that same year. Blood on My Hands arrived as another EP in 2012, with the second album Down Side Up emerging in early 2013.
