Biography
Established in 1902 under the name Société Symphonique de Québec, the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec stands among Canada's earliest and most esteemed ensembles still performing today. Its merger with the Cercle Philharmonique de Québec occurred in 1942, prompting a name change to its current designation. More than ten distinguished conductors have led the group, with Joseph Vézina serving as the first from 1902 until 1924. Marking a century of operation, the orchestra marked its centennial in 2002. The appointment of Maestro Fabien Gabel to the role of music director took place in 2011. Quebec's artistic and cultural vitality continues to center around this ensemble.
