Orlando Weeks, frontman of rock band the Maccabees from the late 2000s through much of the 2010s, launched his solo path in the late 2010s by scoring his own short story and then delivering his first solo album in June 2020.

Born in South London and educated at Highgate and the University of Brighton, the singer-songwriter co-founded the Maccabees and remained with the group across four studio albums, the last of which, Marks to Prove It (2015), reached number one on the U.K. charts. After the band split in August 2016, Weeks issued the short story The Gritterman together with its accompanying score. Several years after the Maccabees’ final tour, he confirmed his solo direction in 2020 with the intimate singles “Safe in Sound” and “Blood Sugar,” both appearing in the first half of the year. His debut album, A Quickening, followed that June, extending his introspective approach into explorations of paternal life and self-expression.
