Biography
In the mid-'80s, numerous emerging British jazz talents caught the attention of American listeners, and Orphy Robinson stood among them. Drawing his earliest influence from Roy Ayers, he explored funk, pop, and avant-garde sounds prior to becoming a member of Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors. A versatile musician who has appeared alongside Pine's small group, Andy Sheppard, and his own ensemble, Robinson cut sides for Blue Note yet never secured a major breakthrough stateside, owing to the wide-ranging nature of his approach.
