Osmar Milito first gained notice for his piano work in the 1960s. Possessing an acute harmonic sensibility, he went on to record and perform with Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis, Jr., Pat Metheny, Cláudio Roditi, Hendrik Meurkens, Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughan, Randy Brecker, Benny Golson, Spanky Wilson, Mark Murphy, Hermeto Pascoal, and numerous others. The brother of Tamba Trio drummer Hélcio Milito, he turned professional in 1964, providing accompaniment for Elis Regina, Silvinha Telles, Leny Andrade, Nara Leão, Paulo Moura, Edison Machado, Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Vinicius de Moraes, and Jorge Ben. Following an extended stay in Mexico, he lived in the United States for two years, where he worked with Sergio Mendes. After returning to Brazil during the 1970s, he maintained an active schedule alongside MPB figures such as Chico Buarque, Ivan Lins, and Nana Caymmi, as well as instrumentalists Pascoal Meirelles, Márcio Montarroyos, Mauro Senise, and Paulinho da Costa. His debut solo album, taped in 1971, later appeared in Argentina, the U.S., Japan, and Europe. Milito died on September 23, 2024, at the age of 83.
