The Paper Dolls, a girl group headquartered in Northampton, England, brought together vocalists Suzi "Tiger" Mathis, Pauline "Spyder" Bennett and Sue "Copper" Marshall. Their signing to the Pye label yielded a debut single, "Something Here in My Heart (Keeps Telling Me No)," that climbed to number 11 on the UK pop charts in 1968 and prompted the issuance of the LP Paper Dolls House. Despite an ultra-mod image that generated an array of tie-in merchandise including toys and books, the trio posted only modest further chart success; after "My Life (Is in Your Hands)" and "Someday" both failed to register, Pye ended the association. The Paper Dolls moved to RCA in 1970 and released two additional singles—a cover of "My Boyfriend's Back" together with "Remember December"—before disbanding, though a decade afterward Mathis resurfaced on the UK charts in her role as vocal coach for the St. Winifred's School Choir, whose surprise number one hit was "There's No-One Quite Like Grandma."
