Paul McCandless

A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Paul McCandless earned lasting recognition through his extended partnership with Oregon and through the ethereal, introspective tones he draws from his distinctive instrumental palette. After performing in Paul Winter’s Winter Consort from 1968 to 1973, McCandless departed alongside Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, and Collin Walcott to establish Oregon. Although he remains chiefly identified with that ensemble—active only intermittently during the 1990s—he has also collaborated in performance and on recordings with Gallery and Eberhard Weber while issuing his own projects on the Elektra, Landslide, and Windham Hill labels.
