Biography
Having studied under the guidance of both Perti and Corsi, Petronio Franceschini counted among the earliest inductees of the Bolognese Philharmonic Academy. In time he instructed Giacomo Perti, nephew of Lorenzo Perti, who himself rose to prominence as an operatic composer. Recognition arrived swiftly through Franceschini’s operas, which often set trumpet against tenor in animated exchange and maintained brisk pacing throughout. His catalog further embraced sonatas, among them one for trumpets, together with masses, motets, psalms, and cantatas; in 1680 he took up the post of cellist at Bologna Cathedral.
