After a period residing in London, this composer performed on both flute and oboe within the productions of the Italian opera. His path then led him northward to Scotland, where he made his home in Edinburgh for a span of eight years. While based primarily in Scotland, Barsanti crafted his works in a definitively Italian style. Although concerto grossi and overtures formed his main focus, he additionally set thirty Scottish songs for continuo accompaniment. His output for instruments stood out in quality, particularly pieces featuring the recorder as well as those incorporating timpani.
