Peven Everett possesses multiple artistic gifts that remain largely undiscovered, and his output shifts fluidly among the realms of house, R&B, jazz, and hip-hop. Born in Harvey, IL, he earned a scholarship to Berklee College of Music at seventeen yet departed early to tour live alongside Betty Carter, Branford Marsalis, and Winton Marsalis. The multi-instrumentalist subsequently contributed trumpet to several jazz sessions, among them Curtis Lundy’s Against All Odds, while establishing himself as a key presence within Chicago’s house and R&B scenes. He joined Roy Davis Jr. for the U.K. garage smash “Gabrielle” and the nearly equally striking “Watch Them Come,” issued under the name Men from the Nile.

Although Everett had already issued numerous solo 12"s before 2002, that calendar year proved exceptionally productive: alongside the deep-house favorite I Can't Believe I Loved Her, he delivered the strong single Soul Tempura and two soul-oriented albums on his own Studio Confession imprint, Speed of Light and Kissing Game. A third solo album followed later via Oakland’s ABB label.
