Biography
Poor Moon originated in 2008 as a long-distance collaboration linking Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott, both members of Fleet Foxes and Crystal Skulls, with brothers Ian Murray and Peter Murray from the Bay Area outfit the Christmas Cards. After initial songwriting sessions, the group played multiple Seattle-area house parties under constantly changing names. Once they advanced to larger venues, they chose Poor Moon, a name borrowed from a Canned Heat song. Recording took shape gradually across several bedroom studios over the ensuing years. The project moved slowly because its beginnings overlapped with Fleet Foxes’ ascent, keeping Wargo and Wescott occupied with prolonged touring that left Poor Moon inactive. Early 2012 brought the band’s debut, a five-song EP titled Illusion issued by Sup Pop. Their self-titled full-length appeared in late summer of that year.
