Pseudo Echo

Formed in Melbourne, Australia, the quartet has repeatedly altered its sonic direction across the span of its existence. Its earliest work centered on synth-rock echoing Duran Duran and Ultravox, while weaving in late-’70s disco textures and presenting a lipstick-and-big-hair image. After a 1987 personnel change, the band adopted a percussion-heavy, dance-focused approach, revisiting and recutting portions of its prior catalog in the new vein and trading the earlier look for a casual leather-jacket style. In 1989 the members abruptly grew their hair and turned to melodic hard rock in the vein of Van Halen, meeting with the same lack of commercial traction.
