Biography
Ran Nir, hailing from Israel, functions as a vocalist, tunesmith, player of multiple instruments, and studio craftsman who helped launch the indie pop outfits Asaf Avidan & the Mojos and LNFT prior to launching his own projects in the closing years of the 2010s. Operating from Berlin, he delivered his opening full-length Obsession in 2019, an introspective body of acoustic indie folk material.
Alongside fellow tunesmith Asaf Avidan he established Asaf Avidan & the Mojos during 2006, contributing bass lines while collaborating on writing and production tasks. The ensemble put out three well-received albums, among them the gold- and platinum-certified opening statement The Reckoning, and wound down following the arrival of 2010’s Through the Gale. During 2011 Nir joined former Mojos members Yoni Sheleg on drums and Roi Peled on guitar to issue the In/Between EP under the project name the Wrong Demons.
He assembled the indie rock collective LNFT in 2012 and introduced Tales of a Drunken Man, which earned favorable regional notice. After moving to Germany in 2014 he captured the group’s second album Time to Bleed. Two years later Nir partnered with Andrew Campbell to create the management, publishing, booking, and recording entity I Am You Music Group (IMU). Beyond issuing records by Totemo, ORI, Sivan Talmor, Bucharest, and Trace Kotik, the imprint brought out Nir’s initial solo album Obsession in 2019.
