Red Mecca, a Swedish ensemble whose music gravitates toward darkwave and atmospheric electronica, hails from Sundsvall. At its core stands Jan Strandqvist, previously the keyboardist and percussionist for Brända Barn. Frontwoman Frida Madeleine anchored the lineup from 2013 through 2018, after which vocalist Susanne Jonsson assumed the role following her departure. Since their 2013 emergence, the outfit has maintained a consistent output of EPs and albums, among them the lauded Electricity from 2016 and I See Darkness In You released two years later, with an eighth studio album planned for 2025.

Their inaugural long-player, You Were Never Here, arrived in 2013. Covered with Rain followed the next year. Electricity, their third album, earned the Manifest Award upon its 2016 unveiling. I See Darkness In You came out in 2018, and its namesake song featured in the widely viewed BBC series Killing Eve. During that same summer, the band put out the 12-inch single "The Fall and the End," which concluded Frida Madeleine's involvement in studio work. Susanne Jonsson soon integrated into the group and made her first recorded appearance on the 2019 release Truth. Electronic reinterpretations of Donna Summer's "Working the Midnight Shift" and Hot Chocolate's "Everyone's a Winner" helped sustain momentum until the arrival of Away in 2021. The double album Stay, noted for its scope, emerged in 2023.
