Formed in Spain toward the close of the 1980s, the pop/rock group Revólver took shape under singer/songwriter Carlos Goñi. A contract with Warner Music arrived in 1990, allowing the band to cut its self-titled debut that same year. The 1992 album Si No Hubiera Que Comer preceded a shift toward acoustic concerts throughout Spain, which yielded the unplugged set Básico in 1993. Two further studio releases followed: 1995’s El Dorado and 1996’s Calle Mayor, each tracked in the United States under Thom Panuzzio. After the second live album Revolver 2 appeared, the band resurfaced in 2000 with Sur, shaped by producer Mick Glossop. The 2002 effort 8:30 A.M. displayed a smoother, more relaxed tone that may have stemmed from Goñi’s newly settled family routine. Additional albums arrived in quick succession, among them Mestizo and 21 Gramos, before 2011’s Argan drew on North African musical traditions.
