In 1999 Joseph Arthur performed as an opener for Three Fish, the side project featuring Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament alongside drummer Richard Stuverud from the Fastbacks. The musicians connected immediately, yet a full decade passed before any joint work materialized. Their paths crossed again in 2010 during a Seattle encounter that prompted Ament to extend an invitation to his Montana recording space. By April 2012 the trio, now operating under the name RNDM, tracked an entire album across just four days. That project, Acts, appeared in October and revived a classic ’90s alt-rock atmosphere built around Arthur’s gravelly vocals atop Ament and Stuverud’s driving rhythm section. Four years afterward the group reconvened for a second album, introducing slinky grooves and dance-oriented beats. Their revised approach first surfaced on the lead single “NYC Freaks,” with the full effort Ghost Riding arriving the following month in March 2016.
