Biography
Rodney Jones, an underappreciated guitarist distinguished by his cool tone, reaches his strongest form inside unadorned jazz frameworks. Peak recognition arrived during his years alongside Dizzy Gillespie from 1976 to 1979, when he was still in his early twenties. Before that association he had already collaborated with Jaki Byard and appeared on sessions with Chico Hamilton; afterward he spent a period accompanying Lena Horne. As a bandleader he issued recordings on Timeless in both 1978 and 1981, on the RR label, and on Minor Music in the late 1980s.
