Biography
Japanese gothic pop/rock quintet Roselia, an integral component of the massively popular Bang Dream multimedia franchise, craft an energetic, fast-paced, forceful, orchestral, and richly tuneful style ideally suited to anime closing credits.
Emerging for the first time in 2016, Roselia ranked among several pop/rock ensembles assembled within the Bang Dream project, which fans shorthand as "Bandori." Fellow acts under the same umbrella encompassed Poppin' Party, Raise a Suilen, and Morfonica. The franchise spawned an anime narrative centered on ambitious groups who cross paths at a neighborhood performance space and forge lasting bonds, alongside a rhythm-oriented video game permitting users to select and control any on-screen persona. An added layer of intrigue arose from the casting process: voice actors selected chiefly for instrumental prowess rather than acting credentials alone. These performers executed their parts with expert command, appeared onstage as the fictional units they portrayed, issued recordings, and embarked on live tours. Roselia's lineup featured Aina Aiba voicing lead singer Yukina Minato, Haruka Kudou handling guitar for Sayo Hikawa, Yuki Nakashima on bass as Lisa Imai, Megu Sakuragawa at the drums for Ako Udagawa, and Kanon Shizaki on keyboards portraying Rinko Shirokane. Their sonic approach blends crisp melodies with driving pop/rock edges and subtle symphonic metal accents; the moniker fuses the words "rose" and "camellia." Onstage, the group consistently donned ornate attire drawing from visual kei traditions yet filtered through a Victorian gothic lens. Their debut full-length, Anfang—German for "Beginning"—surfaced in 2018, followed by Wahl, meaning "Choice," in 2020; each reached the upper echelon of the Oricon ranking. An overseas audience soon developed, prompting appearances at American gatherings such as Anime Expo and CharaExpo. After multiple anthology packages, the ensemble delivered its next studio effort, Für Immer ("For Eternity"), in 2024.
