Afterglow's devoted audience among Latter-day Saints traces back to modest origins in a Salt Lake City suburb. What later became the duo first took shape as a four-voice ensemble—two men and two women—who began singing together as juniors at Pleasant Grove High School. Local performances quickly built a following, leading the group to issue two recordings under the Afterglow name before the male members departed for missionary service and the quartet dissolved. Upon their return, Joel McCausland and Kevin Peay resumed the Afterglow identity and, in 1984, secured a contract with Deseret Book for their debut album on that imprint, sustaining an enthusiastic listener base from that point forward. Their recordings emphasize close vocal harmonies, frequently present fresh settings of familiar LDS hymns, and are typically supported by a full orchestra. The pair has also explored country material under the McCoslyn & Paye billing. Across their catalog they have released seventeen albums in the contemporary Christian music style and two in the country genre. Warriors of Light was recorded entirely in Japanese, while the 1999 collection You're My Friend presented Afterglow favorites in both Portuguese and English.
