Biography
Cash Cash built their reputation on tuneful, high-octane EDM productions after surfacing in the 2000s and steadily expanding a dedicated audience through such albums as the 2008 release Take It to the Floor and The Beat Goes On from 2012. Broader notice arrived with the single “Take Me Home,” taken from their 2016 breakthrough Blood, Sweat & 3 Years, which climbed to number three on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. They sustained their status as worldwide club regulars via later cuts including the 2017 track “Matches” featuring Rozes and 2018’s “Finest Hour” with Abir, both later collected on the 2021 album Say It Like You Feel It.
The project originated in Roseland, New Jersey, where longtime associates Jean Paul Makhlouf (producer, vocals) and Samuel Frisch (producer, DJ) first joined forces. A firmer lineup crystallized in 2007 once Jean Paul’s brother Alex joined on production and keyboards. The three spent a summer inside Jean Paul’s home studio and emerged with a collection of demos that included an early version of the infectious dance track “Party in Your Bedroom.” They settled on the name Cash Cash early in 2008 and signed with Universal. The internet and club favorite “Party in Your Bedroom” appeared on their October self-titled EP for the label. Following that success, the group also supplied remixes for Krewella, Capital Cities, Kelly Clarkson, and Bruno Mars. Their first full-length, Take It to the Floor, arrived in early 2009 and was promoted by a package tour that included Metro Station and Tyga.
The second album, Love or Lust, surfaced in 2011 on the band’s own imprint and carried the singles “Victim of Love” and “Sexin’ on the Dance Floor,” the latter featuring Jeffree Starr. In 2012 they issued the Daft Punk-meets-dubstep single “Michael Jackson (The Beat Goes On),” later included on the EP The Beat Goes On. One year afterward they joined Atlantic’s Big Beat subsidiary. Their first single for the imprint, “Take Me Home” featuring Bebe Rexha, appeared in July 2013 as part of the Overtime EP, which also contained “Here and Now” with Kerli.
The following year Cash Cash recruited Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik for the single “Lightning.” “Surrender,” featuring American singer Julia Michaels on vocals, arrived the next year. Both tracks later appeared on the band’s fourth album and first for Big Beat, Blood, Sweat & 3 Years. The 2016 set reached number three on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and included further contributions from Busta Rhymes, Fitz & the Tantrums, Nelly, Christina Perri, and others. The subsequent year Cash Cash remixed material by Clean Bandit, Liam Payne, and Kelly Clarkson while releasing the singles “Matches” with Rozes and “Belong” with Dashboard Confessional. Additional singles followed, among them 2018’s “Call You” featuring MAGIC! singer Nasri and “Finest Hour” with Abir. All of those recordings were gathered on the group’s fifth album, 2021’s Say It Like You Feel It. Expanding on the prior project, the guest roster for this release incorporated further prominent names such as Wiz Khalifa and Lukas Graham on “Too Late,” Phoebe Ryan on “Ride or Die,” Conor Maynard on “All My Love,” and many more.
