Biography
Tritonal formed as an EDM duo in Austin, Texas, where producers and DJs Chad Cisneros and David Reed began working together in 2008. Since that time they have placed multiple tracks on major dance charts, appeared at prominent festivals, hosted a pair of widely followed radio programs, and served as co-owners of the Enhanced Recordings imprint. Their earliest material consisted of progressive trance productions, yet the pair soon incorporated guest vocalists on a regular basis; the 2011 debut album Piercing the Quiet showcased frequent early partners Cristina Soto and Jeza. By 2013 the duo had moved toward a more mainstream electro-house style, scoring Dance-chart entries with the Phoebe Ryan collaboration “Now or Never” that year and the 2016 Chainsmokers joint “Until You Were Gone.” Subsequent releases continued to balance club tracks with spacious, meditative soundscapes, evident on the 2019 album U & Me, the 2021 meditation project Reverence, and 2022’s Coalesce.
The pair launched their career in 2008 by issuing progressive cuts, frequently featuring vocalist Cristina Soto, on imprints including Anjunabeats, Fraction Records, and Coldharbour Recordings. Their uplifting anthems and high-energy live sets rapidly gained attention across the global dance community, leading to 2009 remixes for Ferry Corsten and Ronski Speed. In July 2010 Enhanced Recordings released the duo’s first mix CD, Enhanced Sessions, Vol. 2, whose second disc was mixed by Ferry Tayle; that same year Tritonal also founded the digital label Air Up There Recordings and debuted the weekly radio program of the same name. Their first collection of original material, Piercing the Quiet, arrived on Enhanced in 2011, with eight of its tracks reaching the Top 20 of Beatport’s trance charts. Additional remixes for Kyau & Albert, Markus Schulz, and Cosmic Gate followed, and Piercing the Quiet Remixed appeared in 2012. The year also brought the duo’s first appearance in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll.
Tritonal closed out the Air Up There series with its 100th and final episode, transmitted live from a sold-out performance at Emo’s in Austin, then introduced the Tritonia radio show at the start of 2013. Festival dates that year included Ultra Music Festival, Electric Zoo, and Electric Daisy Carnival. In addition, the duo joined Will Holland as co-owners of Enhanced Recordings and issued the first two installments of the Metamorphic EP series, which expanded their palette to encompass electro-house and downtempo material. Tritonia Chapter 001 closed the year. Metamorphic III surfaced in 2014 alongside Tritonal remixes for Zedd, Hardwell, and Cash Cash. A 2015 collaboration with Cash Cash produced the major club success “Untouchable,” while further hits arrived with the Chainsmokers and Juventa; the duo also supplied a remix for pop artist Adam Lambert. Tritonia Chapter 002 followed in 2015, and a weekly Sirius XM program titled Tritonia began airing. In 2016 the pair delivered collaborations and remixes for Angel Taylor, Ellie Goulding, and Gareth Emery, plus the remix collection Blackout and the album Painting with Dreams. Several well-received singles appeared the next year, among them “Strangers,” “Wild Kind” with Varpu, and “Good Thing” featuring Laurell.
Fresh 2018 releases included “Out of My Mind,” “U Found Me,” “Calabasas” with Sj and Tima Dee, and “Just Like You” featuring Apek. A string of 2019 singles such as “Hard Pass” and “Real” preceded the third studio album, U & Me. With 2021’s Reverence the duo stepped away from dancefloor productions to create a unified, atmospheric meditation album. University of Texas Music professor Nick Sibicky engineered the set, which drew inspiration from the meditative works of Brian Eno, Nils Frahm, and Ólafur Arnalds. A comparable ambient and spiritually focused approach shaped the fifth album, Coalesce, released in September 2022 and containing guest appearances on tracks such as “Losing My Mind” with Haliene, “Safe & Sound” with Last Heroes and Lizzy Land, and “Signals” with Sarah De Warren.
