Biography
Originating from Stockholm, Sweden, the DJ and producer known as Alesso has built a wide-reaching career by fusing progressive house with pop sensibilities and teaming up with artists from varied backgrounds. Breakthrough tracks from his early years include the 2012 release “Calling (Lose My Mind),” recorded with Sebastian Ingrosso and Ryan Tedder, followed in 2013 by “Under Control,” a joint effort with Calvin Harris and Hurts that topped the U.K. singles chart. He supported Madonna on select British and Russian shows during her 2012 MDNA Tour while also appearing at major events such as Coachella, Creamfields, and Electric Daisy Carnival. The 2014 single “Heroes (We Could Be),” featuring Tove Lo, marked his first entry into the U.S. Top 40 and paved the way for his full-length debut, Forever, issued in 2015. Another prominent international success arrived in 2017 with “Let Me Go,” an all-star track that paired him with actress Hailee Steinfeld and country duo Florida Georgia Line. He later issued the mixtapes Progresso, Vol. 1 in 2019 and Vol. 2 in 2021, along with singles that found him working alongside Marshmello, Zara Larsson, and additional collaborators. In 2024 the Hypnotize EP surfaced, as did the track “I Like It” recorded with country singer Nate Smith.
Alessandro Lindblad, widely recognized under the name Alesso, first drew broad attention through remixes for Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, and Avicii in addition to his original material. A major early milestone occurred in 2011 when his take on Nadia Ali’s “Pressure” ranked among the year’s standout EDM releases. That same year he entered DJ Mag’s Top 100 at number 70; by early 2012 he had been listed among MTV’s “one to watch” acts, delivered his initial BBC Radio 1 essential mix, and earned Zane Lowe’s Track of the Year honor on Radio 1 for “Calling (Lose My Mind).” His placement in DJ Mag’s DJ of the Year poll advanced to number 20, and further momentum came when “Under Control,” again alongside Calvin Harris and Hurts, reached number one on the U.K. chart. In 2014 he signed with Def Jam Recordings, then unveiled Forever the following year, featuring the singles “Tear the Roof Up,” “Cool,” and “Heroes (We Could Be)” with Swedish pop star Tove Lo. Two 2016 collaborations with Asian artists followed: a version of “I Wanna Know” voiced by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai that received promotion in Ibiza and Shanghai, plus a K-pop adaptation of “Years” that included EXO’s Chen. The 2017 all-star single “Let Me Go,” which also featured Andrew Watt and Florida Georgia Line, reached the global Top 40 and climbed to number six on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart. After the Anitta duet “Is That for Me” closed out 2017, he returned in 2018 with the solo cuts “Remedy” and “Tilted Towers.” Progresso, Vol. 1 arrived in early 2019, succeeded in 2020 by non-album releases such as “In the Middle” with Sumr Camp, “Midnight” featuring Liam Payne, and “The End” featuring Charlotte Lawrence. Progresso, Vol. 2 appeared in June 2021 and was trailed by further tracks including “Leave a Little Love” with Armin van Buuren, “Going Dumb” alongside Corsak and Stray Kids, and “Chasing Stars” with Marshmello and James Bay. A Top Five Swedish hit, “Words” featuring Zara Larsson, emerged in 2022 and was followed by “In My Feelings” with Deniz Koyu, 2023’s “Caught a Body” with Ty Dolla Sign, and “Call Your Name” with John Newman. The three-song Hypnotize EP and the Nate Smith collaboration “I Like It” both surfaced in 2024.
