Biography
Dutch progressive trance artist Sander van Doorn emerged as one of the leading DJs and electronic producers during the opening years of the 2000s. Early work leaned toward tech-house and progressive house, while later efforts shifted toward vocal-driven electro-house and EDM. Although his reputation rests chiefly on live sets—he has appeared consistently in DJMag’s Top 100 DJ rankings since 2006—van Doorn has also issued full-length studio albums such as Supernaturalistic (2008) and Eleve11 (2011). Dozens of 12-inch singles have appeared on Oxygen and his own Doorn imprint, alongside numerous DJ mix compilations for Ministry of Sound and Central Station. Standout remixes include Armin van Buuren’s “Control Freak,” Tiësto’s “Dance4Life,” Yello’s “Oh Yeah,” Sia’s “The Girl You Lost to Cocaine,” and Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night.”
Van Doorn launched his recording career in 2004 with a series of tech-trance 12-inch releases on Oxygen Recordings. Residencies followed at Ibiza’s Judgement Sunday and London’s the Gallery, and BBC Radio One aired his Essential Mix in 2006. Around the same period he gained wider attention through remixes that progressed from underground trance acts to mainstream pop and rock, notably the Arctic Monkeys’ hit “When the Sun Goes Down” in 2007. He founded Doorn Records that year and delivered his debut artist album, Supernaturalistic, via Spinnin’ Records in 2008. At the International Dance Music Awards during that winter’s Miami conference he received the Best Breakthrough DJ trophy.
By 2010 van Doorn had become a regular performer at major electronic dance music festivals and was drawing large crowds on global tours. His singles frequently reached the top of Beatport’s dance charts. The follow-up album Eleve11, featuring the hit single “Love Is Darkness,” arrived in 2011. A collaboration with Detroit-based soul singer Mayaeni produced the 2012 single “Nothing Inside.” In 2013 he introduced the monthly radio program Identity on Digitally Imported. That year’s single “Joyenergizer” proved successful, and further joint tracks appeared with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Underworld, and additional artists. The 2014 release “Gold Skies,” recorded with Martin Garrix and DVBBS, achieved widespread European success. Several more singles and partnerships followed in 2015, among them “Phoenix” with R3hab and “Rage” with Firebeatz and Julian Jordan.
