Biography
A pianist of German origin, Sabine Liebner has earned recognition through her dedicated exploration of modern and contemporary repertoire. Her training took place at Munich’s University of Music and Theater under Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, after which she attended master classes led by Leonhard Hokanson, Peter Feuchtwanger, Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Maurizio Pollini, and George Crumb. Several awards and grants have come her way, among them the Music Promotion Award of the City of Munich, while the Goethe-Institut has also singled her out for distinction. The year 1999 saw her establish the Munich concert series “Morton Feldman and Friends,” in which she presented the composer’s solo piano pieces alongside his chamber works. Over time she has emerged as a leading exponent of John Cage’s music and has concentrated on American avant-garde compositions, realizing scores by Henry Cowell, Earle Brown, Christian Wolff, George Crumb, and Pauline Oliveros, among many others. Appearances as soloist and chamber musician have taken her to numerous German festivals; she has also collaborated with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Her recordings appear regularly on the Oehms Classics, Neos Productions, and Wergo labels.
