Sam Kinison

Recognized as the foremost figure in the metal and decibel comedy realm, Kinison—identifiable by his signature beret—pursued a career defined by sharp fluctuations and repeated personal setbacks. A one-time preacher, he generated laughs that landed unevenly, missing as often as they connected, a pattern documented across his recordings. Listeners needed a specialized sensibility to embrace his style. His abrupt death ensured he never attained the full scope of his promise.
