Sarabeth Tucek, an American singer and songwriter born in Miami, Florida, first drew widespread attention in the British press when her debut single “Something for You” appeared in 2007. She lists Bob Dylan and Neil Young among her chief influences and has drawn stylistic comparisons to fellow artists Hope Sandoval and Cat Power. Her earliest recorded appearance came in 2003, when she supplied harmony vocals on the (Smog) album Supper, also known under Bill Callahan’s name. Later that same year she contributed background vocals to Goodbye Little Doll, an album by EZT—singer and songwriter Colin Michael Gagon, who has occasionally worked with Will Oldham—produced by Callahan. Tucek next joined forces with Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre on several tracks that surfaced in 2005 as the five-song EP We Are the Radio. One of those pieces, originally titled “Seer,” was reworked and issued as her debut single “Something for You.” The track had first been released in 2006 by the British imprint Sonic Cathedral Recordings; after earning strong notices across U.K. outlets, it was licensed for a 2007 reissue on Echo. Echo also put out Tucek’s self-titled full-length debut album that year, produced by Ethan Johns and Luther Russell, and paired it with the follow-up single “Nobody Cares.”
