Scott Wilkie, a Detroit native, launched his jazz explorations around the Motor City in 1985 through the group Separate Checks, which built a regional following across the Midwest before splitting up in 1991. He remained active in music yet shifted location to Southern California. Worldwide tours that took him through South America, Europe, and Asia matched his process for shaping independent material. After signing with Narada, a sister label to Virgin Records, he issued Boundless in 1999. That identical year the National Association of Recording Merchants designated him Best Developing Jazz Artist for 1999. Acclaim continued with the next project, More Than You Know (2000), which drew praise from jazz critics. His command of the instrument sharpened steadily into the new decade while performing alongside his regular associates: percussionist Eddie Drayton, drummer David Durge, bassist Nathan Brown, and guitarist Matthew Van Doran. Wilkie reappeared in 2008 with the album Home Again: The Solo Piano Sessions. In 2013 he released the holiday-themed recording The Wonder of Christmas.
