Shallipopi

Shallipopi emerged in 2023 as a Nigerian singer and rapper whose slang-laden approach to Afrobeats quickly turned him into a major discovery. His single “Elon Musk” spread rapidly online and paved the way for two straight albums that reached the summit of the Nigerian charts, beginning with Presido La Pluto and continuing with the 2024 follow-up Shakespopi.

Crown Uzama, raised in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, adopted the stage name Shallipopi when he started posting tracks on social platforms in the early 2020s. An earlier release, the 2021 track “Gra Gra,” brought modest attention, yet it was his 2023 ode to the unconventional billionaire Elon Musk that established his wider breakthrough. Set against tight Afrobeats beats, Shallipopi’s unhurried delivery and self-coined “Pluto-slang” propelled “Elon Musk” into widespread success, serving as the centerpiece of his first EP, Pluto Planet, which arrived in July 2023. Following his signing to Dvpper Music, he issued his first full-length project, Presidio La Pluto, that November and saw it ascend to the top of Nigeria’s TurnTable chart. Demonstrating consistent output, he sustained that momentum with Shakespopi, released in April 2024, which became his second album to claim the number-one position.
