Artemis, previously known under the alias Shogun during an earlier association with the Renegade imprint, is a drum'n'bass producer whose conventional training led to an unexpected standing among the leading figures shaping the forward-thinking domain of downtempo drum'n'bass. Born Oliver Lomax, he revealed prodigious ability by starting piano instruction at age six, then expanding into orchestral brass with special emphasis on the French horn. After appearing with multiple philharmonic orchestras, he studied at the Harrow School for Young Musicians and earned a place in 1994 within the highly regarded music technology course at London College of Music. Holding a sound-engineering qualification, he launched his drum'n'bass output as Shogun and issued material on Renegade. He later aligned with LTJ Bukem's Good Looking Records, where his tracks featured on the respected Earth series, and he has likewise supplied pieces to the label's downtempo offshoot, Cookin' Records.
