Shreya Ghoshal, recognized as an Indian vocal prodigy, entered the music profession at age four. Born into a high-achieving household headed by a nuclear engineer father and a literary scholar mother, she revealed exceptional ability from an early stage. Initial instruction came from her mother, after which she pursued formal Hindustani classical training in the town of Kota. Public recognition arrived when she successfully auditioned for the Zee TV talent program Sa Re Ga Ma. Her progress proved decisive: she secured first place in both the 75th special children's episode and the children's mega-final of 1996 at age 12. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali observed her performance and assigned her the playback role of Paro in the Bollywood film Devdas. Recording work began in 2000, and the picture appeared the next year. The assignment launched Ghoshal into prominence as one of Bollywood's foremost playback vocalists, supplying songs for many of the industry's best-known actresses. Her interpretation of the 2003 Jism number "Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai" placed her on national airplay charts and generated notable attention beyond cinema. Eight industry honors followed, including the National Award in 2003. Fluency in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu in addition to her native Hindi sets her apart in the Indian recording field. Although her higher-education route remained separate from music, Shreya Ghoshal continues as a regular presence in studios throughout India.
