Biography
A cool-toned Austrian jazz vocalist, Simone Kopmajer delivers her material in flawless English. Classical piano lessons began for her at age eight, and saxophone studies followed at twelve. During her teenage years she appeared regularly with a youth big band while also performing frequently alongside her father’s ensemble. Sheila Jordan provided instruction and encouragement once Kopmajer turned seventeen; additional studies took place with Mark Murphy, Jay Clayton, and Michele Hendricks. After completing a master’s degree at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria, she twice toured the Netherlands with the Euro Big Band, performed at various European jazz festivals, and issued three albums: Moonlight Serenade on the Japanese Venus label, her best-known set Romance on Zoho, and the privately released Taking a Chance on Love. Fresh interpretations of standards occupy the core of each project.
