Biography
Born into a family steeped in artistic and musical pursuits, the soft-voiced pop vocalist Kelly Sweet spent her early years in a Cape Cod, MA household led by her jazz-pianist father and her mother, an artist. She mastered individual piano notes well before taking her first steps and delivered her initial live performance at age four inside the Cape Cod Conservatory. Following her parents’ divorce, Sweet relocated with her mother to Utah, where she intensified her focus on refining her vocal technique. At roughly fourteen, the pair leased their Utah residence and spent the next two years crisscrossing the western states to build stage experience and public recognition. That sustained effort produced tangible results when she supported Kenny Loggins in Las Vegas and performed the national anthem on three separate occasions at L.A. Lakers NBA contests. In the summer of 2004 she encountered producer, arranger, and songwriter Mark Portmann (Celine Dion); the pair immediately began co-writing material that marked the decisive shift of her career toward professional musicianship, ultimately securing her a contract with Razor & Tie Records. Her debut album, We Are One, appeared in March 2007.
