Gregorian stands among the leading successes in blending pop and classical elements by incorporating Gregorian chants into familiar pop and rock tracks. Producer Frank Peterson, who helped establish Michael Cretu's Enigma project, directs the endeavor. Their debut official release, Masters of Chant from 1999, achieved widespread acclaim across Europe with Top Ten placements in nine nations, though an earlier 1991 effort by Peterson under the same name shares the stylistic approach without official group status. Subsequent recordings maintained this approach through interpretations of material from artists such as Peter Gabriel, Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay, Björk, Queen, and Tears for Fears. Issued in 2004, The Dark Side shifted focus toward rock influences, featuring tracks originally by Nine Inch Nails alongside those from the Doors. Beyond two concert DVDs, multiple follow-ups in the Masters of Chant series, and a holiday collection from 2006, the collective moved more than four million units with Peterson at the helm.
