Sissel entered the world in Bergen, Norway, during 1969 and had already performed on Norwegian television multiple times while still a child, yet she first drew widespread attention through her remarkable singing at the 1994 Winter Olympics held in Lillehammer. Her performances feature her native Norwegian alongside English and Latin, evoking the ethereal approach of Ireland’s Enya in both tone and substance. During the mid-1990s the releases Innerst I Sjelen and Deep Within My Soul attracted a modest but loyal following, which in turn secured her the role of vocalist for James Horner’s maritime-inspired score in the blockbuster 1997 motion picture Titanic. That same year she joined rapper Warren G for a distinctive Mercury/Def Jam collection blending hip-hop and classical pieces that achieved strong success across Europe. Under her complete name, Sissel Kyrkjebø, she issued Gift of Love on Polygram in 1999.
