Biography
Recognized globally as the pioneering “opera band,” Amici Forever unites five striking, classically trained opera singers who fuse contemporary pop with longstanding operatic traditions. Sopranos Jo Appleby of England and Tsakane Valentine of South Africa, tenors Geoff Sewell of New Zealand and David Habbin of England, and bass baritone Nick Garrett of England first crossed paths while training and appearing at leading international venues. Sewell, who cites Elvis Presley among his influences, originated the concept that the other members later expanded. Their common enthusiasm for classical and pop repertoire secured a recording agreement with Arista Associated Labels and led to their first major appearances at the United Kingdom’s principal rugby union final and the FA Cup Final, where they performed the national anthem. Nick Patrick, whose prior credits include the Gipsy Kings, Tina Turner, and Marvin Gaye, was then engaged to oversee their debut album, Opera Band, which reached worldwide markets on January 13, 2004.
