Biography
Siobhan Donaghy first gained attention as the initial member of Sugababes to pursue a solo path, later establishing herself among Britain’s most distinctive young female performers. She entered the world in London during 1984 and began singing publicly at twelve after former All Saints manager Ron Tom spotted her talent. At a social gathering she met Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan, prompting the three to form a group that London Records signed in 1999 under the name Sugababes. Their debut album, One Touch, appeared to strong reviews in 2000 and featured the singles “Run for Cover,” “New Year,” and “Overload,” the last of which earned a nomination for Best British Single at the 2001 Brit Awards. Following an exhausting tour schedule, Donaghy grew dissatisfied within the trio, convinced the other members sought to sideline her, and departed voluntarily midway through a 2001 promotional visit to Japan. In 2003 she began collaborating with producer Cameron McVey as Shanghai Nobody, then issued her own debut album, Revolution in Me, which drew praise yet limited commercial response. After ending her association with London Records she recorded her second album, Ghosts, with producer James Sanger in France and released it via Parlophone in 2007; that same year she portrayed Mimi in the long-running West End staging of Rent.
