Biography
The advent of online platforms has enabled performers to connect with listeners via fresh approaches that bypass or entirely disregard conventional major-label frameworks. Comedy duo Smosh came together in 2003 and harnessed YouTube to distribute their material with striking results, securing the platform’s most-subscribed channel on three different occasions. The group consists of Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, who first drew notice through a run of clips showing them lip-syncing assorted theme songs; their standout “Pokémon Theme Music Video” eventually surpassed 27 million views. Beyond those visuals, the pair issues annual albums that gather the musical numbers from their channel, launching the series in 2010 with Sexy Album and following it with If Music Were Real in 2011, Smoshtastic in 2012, and The Sweet Sounds of Smosh in 2013.
