Sotomayor

The electronic duo Sotomayor from Mexico blends Latin music influences with Afro-beat rhythms and abundant percussion, all filtered through bass music perspectives. Raised in Mexico City as siblings, Raul handles production while Paulina provides vocals; prior to their joint efforts, Paulina sang with the indie folk group Jefes del Desierto, and Raul was part of the jazz-funk pair Beat Buffet in addition to hosting the weekly Day Off gathering on Sunday afternoons. In 2014 the pair started collaborating musically, resulting in the swift completion of their first release Salvaje by 2015. Building on the success of that record and performances throughout Mexico City, they successfully raised funds via crowdfunding for Conquistador, which arrived in 2017 as their sophomore effort. Their 2019 signing with Wonderwheel Recordings paved the way for the 2020 issuance of Origenes, marking their third album.
