In 1996 drummer Brandt Huseman and twin brother Matt Huseman, the latter on guitar, launched garage band Splitsville with Paul Krysiak, once the guitar tech for their power-pop group Greenberry Woods, handling bass. The none-too-serious side project issued its debut, Splitsville USA, mere months before Greenberry Woods disbanded, prompting the trio to pursue Splitsville on a full-time basis. They signed with Big Deal and delivered Ultrasound in 1997, then spent considerable time on the road alongside labelmates Shonen Knife. Repeater arrived in 1998 as the band’s third album in three years, leading to further touring support dates before the label folded amid financial woes. Splitsville next wrote and recorded its fourth album, The Complete Pet Soul, a forthright nod to both Pet Sounds and Rubber Soul, which appeared on Spanish label Houston Party Records in 2001. That same year Japanese imprint Air Mail released the compilation Bulk Rate, and guitarist Tony Waddy joined the lineup. By late 2003 the group issued Incorporated, its first album as a quartet.
