Prior to issuing tracks such as "Pu$$y/Kitty," "Raise It Up," and "Tongue Song"—the latter serving as a response to Sisqo's successful "Thong Song"—the Chicago-based female rapper Strings made appearances on Keith Sweat's "I'm Not Ready" and R. Kelly's "Gotham City for the Ghetto," also featuring in their respective music videos. Strings' first full-length release, The Black Widow, came out during the middle of 2000 and included work alongside producers and hip-hop artists including Swizz Beatz, Mannie Fresh, the Infamous Syndicate, as well as Juvenile & the Hot Boyz.
