Biography
Subb originated in St. Jean sur Richelieu, a modest community lying just beyond Montreal, while its members were still teenagers in junior high. Beginning in 1992 the musicians committed themselves to steady rehearsals and frequent performances limited at first to friends and family. Their initial demos were cut in 1995, the same year the group started appearing in Montreal clubs. The debut album Highstep to Hell appeared on Underworld Records in 1997. During that same year Subb crisscrossed Quebec and Ontario and simultaneously issued the split EP Two Ban'An a Split with Thirdfall. The following year brought another EP, Like Kids in a Field. March 2000 marked the release of the second full-length album Until the Party Ends on STOMP Records. Growing recognition led to shows with Orgy, the Suicide Machines, and Crazy Tour plus extensive European dates and an appearance on the Vans Warped Tour. In 2002 the band returned to the studio for its third album, Daylight Saving. Observers have described the ensemble’s frantic live energy and sound as a fusion recalling NOFX and Sublime.
