Syd, born Erin Sidney in Burlington, Vermont, first developed his skills on drums before turning to guitar at age fifteen. Working across an array of pop and folk approaches as a singer, songwriter, and producer, he initially shared tracks online and built an audience that encouraged a move to Boston during his college years. There he connected with drummer Jason Gardner, and the pair collaborated on Week Days, Weak Knees inside Gardner’s apartment. The self-released set moved steadily, leading Syd to increase his live appearances in support, while fans circulated recordings of those shows and widened his reach. Building on that progress, he issued his second album, Fault Lines, in 2004, then The Way We Found It in 2007 and the Upswing EP in 2009. He has also worked behind the scenes as producer and drummer on releases by Mia Dyson and has performed and recorded with Hotels & Highways, the Pullmen, and Radio Skies. Following a seven-year silence, Syd resumed releasing material one song at a time beginning in 2016, a process that produced the full-length Easy Magic in 2017.
