Born in Paris, France, on April 14, 1973, as Jonathan Morali, singer-songwriter Syd Matters developed an early passion for creative expression. He enrolled in music courses at Sarah Lawrence College, took the stage for nearby performances, and eventually secured a contract with Third Side Records. His atmospheric folk-pop approach merged acoustic foundations with electronica-tinged accents that recalled the work of Nick Drake and Radiohead. The resulting debut, A Whisper and a Sigh, surfaced in 2003 on V2 Music, and two years later Someday We Will Foresee Obstacles arrived in 2005. Release history grew tangled when V2 reissued Someday We Will Foresee Obstacles in the United States under the title Syd Matters, then merged that record with the first album into a double-disc set also titled Syd Matters and bearing the same artwork used for the original Someday We Will Foresee Obstacles edition. In 2008 the project, by then officially operating as a five-piece band, delivered its third album-length release, Ghost Days.
