Biography
French guitarist Sylvain Luc first discovered jazz during his teenage years in the 1980s and began sharpening his improvisational skills at that time. As a youngster he had trained at the Academy de Bayonne, where he achieved mastery of the guitar, cello, violin, and mandolin, yet exposure to jazz redirected his artistic goals. During his twenties he performed with the Bubble Quartet and developed a strong interest in South African music. He later merged his jazz sensibilities with worldbeat textures to establish a distinctive professional path. His debut release, Duet, appeared in 2000, with Sud arriving soon after. The following project, Trio Sud, reached listeners in spring 2002 and included contributions from Jean-Marc Jafet and Andre Ceccarelli. Sylvain Luc died on March 13, 2024 at the age of 58.
