Emerging from Lisbon in 1995, the Portuguese punk rock group Tara Perdida first gained widespread attention when its fifth studio album, Nada a Esconder, reached the national Top Ten in 2008. The current roster consists of vocalist and guitarist João Ribas, born João Ribas de Sousa on May 6, 1965, in Lisbon; guitarist Ruka, born João Rui Costa on May 24, 1973, in Lisbon; guitarist Ganso, born Tiago Felgueiras da Silva on May 15, 1975, in Lisbon; bassist Jaime, born Jaime Batista de Sousa on January 17, 1975, in Lisbon; and drummer Rodrigo, born Rodrigo Martins Alves on October 6, 1980, in Cascais. At the outset the lineup also featured bassist Cró and drummer Orélio alongside Ribas and Ruka. Before establishing Tara Perdida, Ribas had played in Censurados, a short-lived act that issued three albums—Censurados (1990), Confusão (1991), and Sopa (1993). The band’s self-titled debut appeared in 1996, followed in 1998 by the sophomore effort Só Não Vê Quem Não Quer, after which the original rhythm section departed. Ganso, Jaime, and Rodrigo stepped in to replace Cró and Orélio, enabling Tara Perdida to resurface four years later with the third album É Assim (2002). The subsequent release Lambe-Botas (2005) marked a commercial breakthrough that secured a contract with Universal Music and set the stage for the mainstream success of Nada a Esconder (2008), which peaked at number six on the Portuguese albums chart and yielded the single “Sentimento Ingénuo.” A concert DVD titled É Incrivel appeared the same year.
