Biography
British soul singer Tasmin Archer gained widespread attention throughout the U.K. and achieved solid recognition in the U.S. during 1993, owing to the silky quality of her vocals on the debut album Great Expectations and its hit single "Sleeping Satellite." Her style brings to mind the richly layered and sophisticated dance-pop sound of Seal while shifting closer to unadorned pop, a direction illustrated by Shipbuilding, her 1994 album consisting of Elvis Costello covers. Archer went on to issue a number of further releases in the following years, among them Bloom in 1996, Singer/Songwriter in 2004, and On in 2006.
