Taylor's musical foundation emerged from rigorous classical study combined with an early stint playing drums in jazz ensembles. During the 1990s this pedigree helped establish him as a leading American trance DJ, an identity anchored above all by the enduring reach of "Anomaly (Calling Your Name)." At age twenty he left a small Washington State town for Los Angeles, where the city's energetic club circuit quickly deepened his resolve to pursue DJing full time. By 1993 he had landed a five-year residency at Metropolis in Irvine, CA, during which his fascination with the burgeoning trance sound grew steadily. In 1998 he expanded his reach further by joining the on-air staff of Los Angeles' Groove Radio and by serving as the opening DJ for Crystal Method's nationwide tour. Though he issued numerous productions over the years, the 1995 collaboration with BT titled "Anomaly (Calling Your Name)" remains a cornerstone of the trance repertoire; Sasha underscored its stature by closing the first disc of the 1999 album Global Underground: San Francisco with Albion's remix. Despite the track's outsized success threatening to eclipse Taylor's own DJ profile, rising demand for American trance allowed him to advance his career, a development crystallized on the mid-2000 release Trance Nation America.
