Biography
Teco Cardoso, a multi-instrumentalist renowned in jazz circles, hails from Sao Paulo where his career took shape during the initial years of the 1990s. His early appearances came alongside the worldly ensembles ZonAzul and Pau Brasil. By the latter part of that decade, he had launched his independent path, collaborating with notable Brazilian figures including Marlui Miranda, Dori Caymmi, and Joyce. Together with pianist Benjamin Taubkin, Cardoso established the influential Nucleo Contemporaneo label in 1996. The next year saw the launch of his first record, Meu Brasil, which firmly positioned him within the worldbeat and jazz scenes. Back-to-back performances with flutist Lea Freire occurred in 1998 at Miami University followed by the Blue Note in New York City, with both concerts broadcast live over the Internet. These concerts in turn prompted the creation of his sophomore effort, Quinteto.
