Marcos Suzano began his musical journey as a devoted rock enthusiast during adolescence before turning his attention to Brazilian percussion traditions. He progressed through the surdo and cuíca before settling on the pandeiro, establishing himself as one of the most inventive percussionists active in Brazilian pop. His sideman credits include work with Gilberto Gil, Zé Kéti, Aquarela Carioca on the albums Aquarela Carioca (1989) and Contos (1991), Zizi Possi, Marisa Monte, and Ney Matogrosso on As Aparências Enganam (1996), along with numerous additional artists. The partnership with Lenine produced the acclaimed Olho de Peixe (1993), which merged Northeastern rhythms with electronica production. His debut solo release, Sambatown, appeared in 1996.
